Here's the deal - Check out the four included songs, rate them from 1 to 4, with 1 being your favorite and so on down to 4. I'm going to use your opinion to help me decide which songs to promote to radio. Thanks for your help!!
It's really difficult to choose since they are all so different and beautiful in their own ways. I've reconfigured this list several times, but here's what I'm sticking with: 1. Bobby - the coolest; can't get it out of my head. I've listened to it a million times and look forward to the next million. It's Mack the Knife kind of "classic cool." 2. Just Yesterday - absolutely beautiful 3. One Brother - lyrically the most relevant to our turbulent social/political time 4. Transition Man - ROCK ON!!!!! Keep them coming, David. They just keep getting better and better!
Well, I'm a sap for those inspirational good cause type songs, as well as those songs that create images. With that in mind, here's my list: 1. One Brother - A few days ago, listening to an interview on NPR, someone (I forget who) commented that today's mainstream music lacks a sense of urgency. This song has that and I appreciate it. 2. Bobby - Again, I think this song conveys an urgency that I really appreciate. I also enjoy the story telling quality, the smoky jazz mood that underscores the coolness and the confused desperate act of Bobby. I also like the dreamy turn (interlude?) two-thirds through the song. 3. Just Yesterday - The tenderness and the longing in the song are almost irresistible. But, and this may be simplistic on my part, unlike the other two, I don't tap my feet. I sway. :) 4. Transition Man - Placing any of these songs in the position of last is difficult. I really like this song, and I always have. At least part of my reason for placing it last is because I have been listening to recordings of this song for some time. But, this is a different version, a more upbeat tempo and a slight lift in the vocals, perhaps?
1. Just Yesterday. at times, the tempo and melody reminds me of Lucky's Cafe. 2. One Brother. I think this song speaks to me as you did while I was growing up. 3. Transition Man. Anger / Hurt / Bitterness / and self awareness about it all... reminds me of rock and roll. 4. Bobby. Glad to see this finally recorded and out there for consumption. the mood set by this song reminds me of Garland Jeffries mixed with a little persuasion from The Doors (sans Jim Morrison)

Another posting via email, this time from Jenna:
ReplyDeleteI think everybody should just agree with me. It would be much simpler, really.
1 Bobby
2 One Brother
3 Just Yesterday
4 Transition Man
I've sent my first 56 CDs to radio. In my cover letter, I suggest they try Tracks 1 and 6, which are "Bobby" and "One Brother".
ReplyDeleteThanks for the input, everyone!
